Ready to use concentrated smooth antigen suspensions of the bacilli, S. typhi “O,” are included in the Rapid Labs Widal antigen set. S. typhi “H.” paratyphi “AO,” S S. paratyphi “BO.” S. paratyphi types “AH” and “BH.” S. paratyphi “CH.” These antigens are reactive with S. paratyphi “CO” and/or polyspecific positive controls.
Anti-Salmonella antibodies in the patient’s serum react with the Widal antigen suspensions to produce agglutination when they are combined and incubated with the patient’s serum. Agglutination is a test result that is positive and shows that the patient’s serum has anti-salmonella antibodies. A negative test result for anti-salmonella antibodies is the absence of any agglutination.
